FRANCIS EKPO AND FRIENDS SHINE IN YALA NEW YAM JAMBOREE.

Saturday August 30th, 2014 is a day that the people of Yala local government area in Cross River State will not forget in a long time. If I did not witness it and someone tried to tell me the story, it would have been hard to believe.

Cross River is known for its strong tourism potential with breath-taking locations, one of the best carnivals in the world and the highly entertaining Calabar Festival. In the past only Calabar has majorly played host to this top notch events but that is now history as one man has had the courage to take a standard that was only enjoyed in the city to the villages.

That man is no other than Francis Ekpo who had a vision and that has now become a reality.

The Yala New Yam Jamboree with Francis Ekpo and friends was celebrated at Jonag Hotel in Okuku,Yala LG and had performing arts such as Iyanya (although he didn't make it due to a show he had in London) Last Prophet, Robert Ekpo, Fada Kane, Real Pee Ajaba, Whokes, MC Owondo on the artiste line up and the event was proudly sponsored by Airtel, Yala LG council, Jonag hotels, Akuma Lodge, Kris/Aris Popcorn,E3-Eris Executive Eatery and Eliom ushie Oil and Gas Ltd.

According to Francis Ekpo 30th of August every year ushers in the beautiful symphony of drums, flutes, young maidens, women and hard-working men who boast of their farm produce in thanksgiving to God for a fruitful harvest as displayed in the Council Secretariat each year and now to add to this rich cultural display is a variety show of comedy, music, dance and fireworks for residents and visitors to relax the nerves, take away their worries and put smiles on their faces. He also urged everyone visiting to take advantage of the enormous business opportunities available in the beautiful town of Okuku and its environs.

He also said that next years Yala New Yam fiesta promises to be bigger, better and more fun with many puzzles to unravel. This event has come to stay and will surely be a tourist attraction in the nearest future. He thanked the visitors and tourists who came from far and wide, guest artistes and the sponsors for making this dream a reality as this initiative has created an opportunity to showcase the rich culture of the Yala people and boost the tourism potential of Cross River state that will in turn have positive impact on the economy of the people. Airtel has promised to be there next year in full force. Many Yala indigenes went home with phones, airtime and even generators. Over 1000 people were in attendance.

We cant wait for next year, see you in Yala.
